Religiophobia on Quora

By politicoid Mar 1 16

I was quite excited to find Quora. An open forum for seeking information is a great idea. Unfortunately I quickly ran into a number of issues. The following is half a warning and half a complaint.

Due to the origin of the site, Quorans (the members of Quora) often skewed towards the “left.” That’s not a problem in itself. However, this seems to have left Quora a site laden with religiophobia. This would not have been a problem, if the Quora team did not support religiophobic Quorans.

When I saw posts like this one, which not only fails to answer the question being asked, but goes off on a tirade, I quickly responded by reporting it and commenting on the incorrect nature of the post. For the post in question, the response was along the lines of “this post starts off in a tirade, and does not answer the question being asked.” The logical result would be a deletion of the answer, right? No. Instead my comment was deleted, and the post was ignored.

But that post is just one of many. And demanding an answer for why my comment was deleted, and the post remains, finally got me banned permanently. Of course, this was a long time coming, and I could have either capitulated, and ignored all the bigotry, or gone after it, until I was finally banned. I chose the latter.

So, if you enjoy attacking religion, you will feel quite at ease on Quora. However, if you oppose bigoted attacks against religion, then stay away. Quora is not for you.

You can see all of my posts and comments (except for the deleted ones) at my now banned profile: https://www.quora.com/profile/Daniel-Goldman-11/
